The MacTavish Clan
At MacTavish Kennels, we have been breeding and exhibiting the
Scottish Terrier since the mid 1980's, but the association
with the breed goes way back. The first Scottie was MacTavish, our
Founder, who had the grandiose name of Chelslade's
Border Boy and was purchased in 1966 from Fred Fraser
of Ben Braggie Kennels of Ottawa for the princely sum of
$100.00, because he had a malformed tail. Geordie and Jock followed and
by 1986 we were ready to start showing and breeding these wonderful
little dogs.
Our first show and breeding stock came from some of the best. Jesse, a
wheaten girl, was purchased from Fred Fraser and Coffee, a true
black, was purchased at 18 months of age from Betty Penn Bull's famous
Kennelgarth Kennels of Windsor England. We started by breeding
to two great dogs, Reanda Dennis the Menace, owned by Fred Fraser and
to Kirkcaldy's Mister Important, bred and owned by Conn
Hutcheon and Marion Fleming of Manotick, Ontario.
From these beginnings we have selectively bred what we believe to be
happy, healthy and typical Scotties. We show our dogs to confirm our
breeding program and we keep track of the pups we sell to insure
that the long term health of the breed is being maintained. We
have added dogs from outside of our breeding line to maintain the
strength and health of our dogs and we will continue to keep
health and good temperaments formost in our breedings. Our Clan:
