Boarding
Boarding the family pet is a difficult thing to do, both for the pet and for the owner.
The pet is taken from the familiar comfort and routine of home and family and placed
in a much more restrictive environment, away from the people he or she loves and
the daily routines to which it has become accustomed. The owner's initial emotion
is quite often guilt followed by worries whether the pet is going to be safe and
well. The pet is usually very adaptive to the new situation; however, the owner
usually needs more reassurance.
At MacTavish Kennels, our aim is to make the pet's transition to boarding smooth and
to establish a routine for the pet which places it back in the comfort zone as quickly
as possible. We provide for the pets basic needs, in terms of food and a clean, warm,
secure and sheltered living space and we also insure that the "other" important needs,
such as daily exercise and human and animal companionship, which keeps the pet happy
as well as safe and healthy, are part of the overall boarding experience. Dogs and cats
quite often go through a short period of anxiety when first placed in a boarding kennel
but the personal attention provided at MacTavish shortens this period and makes the
stay in the Kennel more pleasant for the pet.
MacTavish Kennels is a small boarding establishment offering eight spacious, individual
indoor/outdoor runs and the care and socialization your pet needs to maintain health and
happiness while you and the family are away. The pet is secure in the Kennel and we
will, if necessary, give medications and special diets. We have an excellent working
relationship with the vets and staff of the Carleton Veterinary Service here in
North Gower, in case of emergencies. We ask that your pet have his annual shots up
to date, including immunization against kennel cough (bordetella) and we encourage
you to come out and visit the Kennel, if possible with your pet, before you decide
to board with us.
